Can you put steel acoustic strings on a classic guitar?
I am looking to get a classical guitar, due to the wider neck (I have quite big fingers), but want to do strumming...so I'm wondering if putting steel strings on a classical guitar body would work.

Also, everyone says you dont/cant strum on a classical guitar. I see someone who posted an answer said you can strum on a classical guitar.

Don't buy a classical guitar unless you're interested in classical music. Every new player feels that their fingers are too fat but with practice like everyone else you will get the hang of playing a regular steel string guitar. You can look for one that has a wider neck (1 3/4" at the nut) if that makes you more comfortable. I happen to actually have fat fingers and I can play any guitar including those with really narrow necks. It's just a matter of practice and perseverance.
In answer to your question, you cannot put steel strings on a classical guitar. The additional tension of the steel strings will ruin the guitar, either by pulling up/off the bridge or by warping the top (or both!).
You can indeed strum a classical guitar although the lower tension of the strings makes it a little more difficult to do well. Good luck.
