Will i be able to play "Black Magic Woman" on guitar?
I am a beginner guitar player, with little experience and i am wondering if i can play Black Magic Woman. It seems to me this is a pretty mild song until some of the small solo's which i can always work on of course. But my question to you is, does it sound to you like i can play it? I have a guitar, not completely tuned but a guitar nonetheless and i also have a amp to hook the guitar up to. I do not have any pedals or anything though. Any real answers appreciated.
This question caught my eye because I play the song in our band. I've always been intrigued by Carlos Santana's guitar work...you do mean his version don't you? (Fleetwood Mac did the original) The chords to the song are simple. It's just a 3-chord song in a minor key.....Santana does it in Dm. This means that if you're content to play chords and sing the song, it's something a beginner could consider. The solos are a bit more difficult, certainly beyond the scope of a beginner. No single lick that he performs is particularly difficult, but there are a lot of them, and it's all in the timing.
Now to the heart of your question...can you play it? It worries me when you say that your guitar isn't "completely tuned." After you learn to your guitar, learn to keep a solid strum pattern, and learn some chords, you could attempt to play the rhythm to this song. You'll need to know Dm-Gm-Am chords: http://www.rockmagic.net/guitar-tabs/santana/black_magic_woman.crd You don't need any effects to play rhythm to this song.
No offense intended, but if you're having trouble tuning your guitar, you're not anywhere near a level where you can be thinking about Santana type solos. At this level, you should be concentrating on a solid foundation of basic skills. It's fine to push the envelope and noodle around, but work on the basics before you jump into effects and solos.
