What does the watt means in regards to guitar amp heads? 25W,50W,100W etc? in layman terms please?
Also, in regards to the Marshall Super Lead Plexi, how is the "Lead" pronounced.. is it "Lead" like the element or "Lead" as in "lead guitar"?
Dumb question but thanks in advance
It's a "lead guitar amp", so yes it's like lead guitar
not the element
watts are the way that most amp companies rate their amps
It's how much power they have
Most practice amps run 10-40 watts
pro amps will go from 40 to 100 watts
a 100 Watt Amp can get VERY loud, especially a tube amp
Other than bass,
(which needs a lot of power to be clean)
you won't find many amps over 100 watts
We do not hear watts in a "linear" fashion, meaning twice the power is not twice as loud
a 50 Watt Amp is about twice as loud as a 15 watt amp
a 100 watt amp is about twice as loud as a 30 watt amp
Not to confuse the issue...
but Speakers are a very important part too....
Speakers vary in efficiency,
and sensitive speakers can sound a LOT louder than inefficient speakers.
A 4x12" cab, will usually be a lot louder, than the same power going thru a single 12" Combo Amp.
Matching the impedance of the speaker to the minimum impedance of the amp, is another factor.
There are many parts to the "volume" puzzle
