what kind of wire would i used to rewire a guitar?
i need to repair my pignose pgg100 guitar that runs on a 9 volt battery and i need to buy new wire but i dont know what wire to get
You should definitely use coaxial wire, that is the lead wire is inside of the grounded outside wire. That way, the outer wire acts as a shield to the electrical "noise" that gets into the guitar. such noise can come from neon lights, nearby high wattage radio transmitters, high voltage lines in the walls, ect..
Regular wire ( single core ) inherently picks up every electronic noise in the area. Then the guitar amp does "it's job" & amplifies it. Remember, most amps don't have features to recognize the difference between noise & signal. In some cases, strong noise can come through stronger than the signal from the guitar pickups! Single coil pickup guitars, such as Fender Strats & Teles have a long ugly history with noise issues. being a Strat nut, I have battled with this nemesis for 4 decades!
Never use single core wire in a guitar, your just asking for trouble.
Here's a page from Stewart MacDonald guitar supplies:
http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Electronics,_pickups/Supplies:_Wire,_cables/Shielded_Guitar_Circuit_Wire.html
1586 is for single coil pickups, 1818 is for trick wiring double coils ( coil tapping, phase, mixing pickups, series/parallel, ect..)
This is a good page for learning the basics of guitar wiring:
