How to set up an all Valve Guitar Amp?

I have just bought my first all Valve Guitar Amp, and I'm not entirely sure what I'm supposed to do to get the best sound. It has 2 channels, each has a 3 band EQ, a level control and a gain control. It's also got a master volume and presence, which I understand fine. But what is the correlation between the 'level' control and the 'master volume'? Does boosting the 'level' drive the power tubes to break up? Or is it the master volume that does that.. What do I need to do to achieve power stage overdrive?
The amp is a Blackheart BH100H 'Hothead' with its matching cab.

The master volume controls the power amp, the channel level controls the preamp.
Preamp distortion and power tube saturation are very different things. Preamp distortion is that crunchy, biting sound. Power tube saturation is a more rich and buttery sort of quality.
Of course, amps sound their best when you're pushing those power tubes to their limits, so crank that master up. If it's too loud, get a THD Hot Plate. That way you can get cranked tone with a reasonable volume.
