Muso Question! Randall Amplifier Stack?
Im buying a Randall RH100G2 Head with RA412XC Cabinet:
and was wondering if people have any experience with this head or quad or any randall for that matter
also does anyone know how much something like this would cost?
Thanks
The site below is one of the best around for user reviews... going by what they're saying, this amp is going to be reliable, have somewhat sterile/neutral cleans, and have a very metal-friendly distortion.
Probably not for anything but metal, actually.
A better speaker cab, a well-shielded and grounded guitar with higher output pickups, and some EQ in the fx loop would probably take care of the hiss/noise issue that some users talk about... of course, only using as much gain as you need and no more would probably help, too... you should never need to put your gain knob over 75%, if you are you're doing something wrong (ie you need hotter pickups or a boost pedal or some EQ to make the signal hotter before it hits the amp, etc)...
Randalls in general are very good quality amps. Dimebag used solid-state Randalls for most of his career with Pantera, only going over to tubes at the very end... so every recorded sound of his is done with a solid state amp.... something not a lot of players realize, what with the shameless promotions some companies have done in his name after his death....
The Randall tube amps are incredible, they've made a modular preamp section where you can actually customize multiple channels of your amp with different tube preamps. Metallica and Linkin Park are both using them now, for instance - mostly because these modular preamps capture the sound of their favorite amps so well that they don't have to bring tons of equipment along with them on tour, and they still can have a lot of tonal flexibility with one amp.... but anyways...
This is a solid state amp that is pretty much meant for metal/aggressive rock. It should never break down or go bad. I think this would be a great amp to play on, it would be something that I would seriously consider if I was in the market for that kind of an amp.
